Executive Director – Growing up in Morocco, Hatim was an award-winning classical pianist, a heavy metal guitarist, and surrounded by sounds of the country’s Arabic, Amazigh, and Sub-Saharan African origins. At Harvard, he studied composition, jazz, and ethnomusicology, but found his voice in electronic music – a medium that opened doors towards unifying his eclectic influences. From 2002 to 2016, Hatim composed, produced, and performed in various solo and collaborative projects under the moniker “officerfishdumplings”. In 2012, Hatim founded REMIX ←→ CULTURE – an international collective committed to harmonious links between traditional music and remix art. Hatim attracted a growing number of collaborators to identify various musical traditions, then record, film, produce, mix, and remix them. The project began in Morocco and later expanded to other countries, most recently Brazil. From 2012 to 2015, Hatim took REMIX ←→ CULTURE to the stages of various festivals in California, Morocco, and the Lincoln Center in NY, where he performed live remixes of the videos shot by the collective. In the summer of 2016, Hatim premiered new video remixes at various festivals and venues in China and Europe, notably the Roskilde Festival in Denmark. In August 2016, Hatim decided he had outgrown his “officerfishdumplings” stage name, and made way for his new artist name, H.A.T.
Audio Engineer – Tyler Wood was born and raised in rural northern Maine. By age 5 he’d fallen in love with playing and recording music, and was making original albums with his brother on a boombox tape recorder. Before too long Tyler was performing professionally as a pianist, and also began a parallel career as an audio engineer and producer. A decade ensued of touring and making records with artists including Chester French, Joan As Policewoman, Luke Temple (Here We Go Magic), Glass Ghost, and Oh My Goodness. Tyler’s work has encompassed a wide range of music from avant-garde to pop to traditional. His openness has led him in many directions, some very technologically oriented, but he has always maintained a passion for capturing a pure human performance– a moment’s music in a moment’s time. When Hatim Belyamani sought Tyler’s advice on early Remix<--->Culture work, Tyler fell in love with the music and was refreshed by the intimacy and vitality of the recordings. Tyler happily joined the trip to Morocco in spring 2014, and has been Remix<--->Culture’s chief audio engineer ever since..www.tylerwood.com
Videographer / Film Editor – Nina is an actor and singer who also studied film production at SF State’s Digital Video Intensive. Coupled with her passion for music and hearing and telling a good story, she was thrilled to help the Remix Culture project in any way she could. She contributes her Canon 60D, her cool-headed problem-solving and pun-centric sense of humor on the spot regularly, as well as her growing video editing skills and her eye for set-design. When she isn’t filming with Hatim, you can find her acting in Bay Area theater, films and commercials, or speeding on her scooter in SF.
